Geolocation Tracking in BuiltSpace
BuiltSpace values your privacy and ensures that geolocation tracking is only used when necessary to enhance your work efficiency and accuracy. Here’s a breakdown of how geolocation tracking works within the BuiltSpace platform, particularly during inspections.
When We Track Your Location
We do not track your location continuously. Instead, BuiltSpace takes a geolocation snapshot only when you “SAVE“ or “SUBMIT“ an inspection. This snapshot helps to accurately record the location where the inspection was completed, ensuring that the data is precise and relevant. The geolocation is attached to the inspection record and can be viewed by your organization members and, if applicable, shared with your organization's customers.
Permissions the App Requests on Your Device
On iOS:
- Precise Location: We request permission to access your precise location. While you can control this setting through your phone's settings (e.g., allowing only an approximate location), we recommend keeping Precise Location enabled. Your company policies may require Precise Location to be enabled for the Service Twin app.
- Foreground Location: We do not request background location permissions. Location tracking is only active when the app is in the foreground, meaning it is only capturing your location while you are actively using the app.
- Temporary Permission: If you choose "Allow once" or "Allow this time," the app will ask for location permission again the next time you start work in a Building.
On Andriod:
When using the Service Twin app on Android, you have several options for managing location permissions, ensuring that you have control over how and when your location is accessed:
Permission Options:
- Allow all the time: The app can use your location at any time, whether it's open or running in the background.
- Allow only while using the app: The app can access your location only when you are actively using it. This ensures that your location is tracked only during specific interactions with the app.
- Ask every time: Each time you open the app, it will request permission to use your location. The app will have access to your location only for that session and will ask for permission again the next time you start it.
- Don’t allow: The app will not have access to your location at any time, even when you are using it.
If you choose to allow location access, you can further refine this by toggling the Use precise location setting on or off:
- Precise location: The app can determine your exact location, which is useful for tasks requiring high accuracy, such as submitting inspection details.
- Approximate location: The app will only know that your device is within a general area, roughly 3 square kilometers in size, which may be sufficient for some tasks but less accurate.
Types of Location Usage:
- In the foreground: The app can use your location only when it is open and visible on your screen, or when you interact with it directly.
- In the background: The app can access your location even when it’s not open or actively being used. However, the Service Twin app does not request background location permissions, so your location is only tracked while the app is in use.
These options give you flexibility in how your location data is handled, ensuring that you can balance privacy with the needs of your work. If you deny location permissions, the app will continue to function normally, but the work you submit will not include your location. Check with your company to see if and when any specific location permissions settings are required.
Location Services & Accuracy
Your device’s location services can function without Wi-Fi or cellular data, although cellular service is required. Additional device features can help improve the accuracy of your location.

Additional Information
- Asset Location Updates: If an asset does not have a known location in our system at the time of your inspection and your procedure captures an accurate location, BuiltSpace may attach that location to the asset and display it on the asset map.
- Data Accessibility: Members of your organization have access to all completed procedures and can see the geolocation of these procedures. This information may also be shared by your administrators with your organization’s customers.
